Snce she was educated in a reconstructed family that didn't really show her any sort of feeling toward her existence she became cold to everyone; she had a problem with authority and she was always in trouble when she was young. Growing up didn't help until she joined the marines corps. It's not completely known why she changed her branch when she went to StarFleet Academy but her superior is still in a deep coma to this date.

History
Atraea was born on Earth and raised in a orphanage since both her parents had mysteriously disappeared after her birth. She didn't know who they were or what they looked like, except for the fact they both had been born hundreds of years ago on El-Auria before the Borg invaded it, as well as the fact the name she was carrying had been given by her mother. She was sent into a family that was taking in troubled children to simply make them work hard for their own good. Unfortunately for them, Atraea was not one to follow orders at this age and she was more trouble than anything else. Without showing emotion she was always sent to the director of her school for bullying or beating bigger kids than her. She was making herself alive by doing so; it wasn't because she wanted people to see her, it was simply to know she was there at that moment. Since she didn't know what El-Aurians were supposed to really be, she didn't know why she was able to know the feelings of people or even sometimes know what they were thinking.
At the age of sixteen she was found guilty of some petty crime and the judge told her it was either a sentence in jail or to join the Federation Marines Corps. Without thinking much she chose the Corps, for she thought this way would be useful to gain more training in fighting. After a year of training, Atraea changed from what she used to be; she was now a Corporal in the Marines Corps on the USS Mortag, she was following the hierarchy and knew how to follow orders. From this point she was sent with the team she was assigned to recon enemy positions on a distant planet. Three years later after being promoted to the rank of Master Gunny and becoming the leader of her own recon team, her superior asked her if she would like to join a covert operation. After a brief moment she simply refused the promotion saying she was good where she was. As the time went on her superior became a bit too personal with her, making her feel obligated to change her career path and she joined StarFleet Academy where she joined the Security Course.
Two years later she was sent to Vanguard Academy to finish her class and also to teach close combat to the newly arrived cadets. After graduating from the academy she was asked to stay and continue to teach as an official instructor but she simply decided that she wanted to go directly on the field and was transferred to the USS Belgrade under the order of Captain Dimitry Sportirk.
A year later she was sent to Starbase 12 as a security officer.
